John Richardson currently consults with and participates on the Board of companies pursuing deployment of small modular reactors.
Prior to his retirement in 2022, he was Chairman and CEO of ENERCON where he was responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and management of the company. He joined ENERCON when it was a start-up company in 1984 and was instrumental in growing ENERCON to a leader of engineering and environmental services in the power industry, with revenues of $300 Million. Richardson has over forty-eight years of broad-based management experience including technical nuclear plant operations, engineering and regulatory affairs. While at ENERCON he provided licensing, engineering and management consulting support to many nuclear clients, managed and directed management assessments at several nuclear power plants to improve performance, and was an independent member of the Offsite Safety Review Committee for clients’ nuclear plants.
Prior to joining ENERCON, he was the Director of Nuclear Safety and Licensing for Mississippi Power & Light (MP&L) and Operations Manager at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. He was responsible for developing all operations procedures and training material for operators while obtaining Senior Reactor Operator certification. He then was responsible for interface with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to obtain the operating license for the largest single unit nuclear plant in the nation. Before joining MP&L, Mr. Richardson was with Westinghouse Electric Corporation at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho. He was a Nuclear Plant Engineer/ Shift Supervisor and was qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW), Nuclear Plant Engineer, and Shift Supervisor at a dual reactor naval prototype (AIW). His responsibilities included the supervision of an operating crew of naval and civilian personnel to ensure plant safety and efficient plant operation while conducting training of naval and civilian personnel. He was responsible for coordination and supervision of all maintenance, testing, and training activities during a shift, and was also a qualification board member for final evaluation watches and final oral boards.
Mr. Richardson started his professional career as an electrical engineer working for Motorola Government Electronics Division designing satellite and deep space probe communication systems.
Mr. Richardson has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University, completed the curriculum for a Master’s in Electrical Engineering at Arizona State University, and holds a Master of Business Administration from Mississippi College.
