Joining the Severn Leadership Group (SLG) as an SLG Fellow in 2022, Wendy now serves on the Board of Directors as of November 2022.
Wendy Bernard has 16+ years of combined professional experience in Human Resources, Leadership, Recruiting, Sales, and Account Management. She recently served as the Director of Human Resources (HR) and Administration for Edwards Performance Solutions (Edwards) located in Columbia, MD for over 7 seven years. She led all strategic HR initiatives and oversaw day-to-day operations for HR, Recruiting, Security, and Administrative Support. Her most important and fulfilling role was serving as a trusted advisor to Edwards Executive leadership team, as well as coach and mentor to her team and the company’s employees. During her tenure with Edwards, her team successfully created and implemented the company’s first ever New Hire Onboarding Experience along with a robust Rewards and Recognition Program to recognize employees who embody and demonstrate the Company’s core values – People Are Our Strength, Customers Matter, Corporate Growth Powered by Innovation, and Community Connection is Vital.
Prior to joining Edwards, she served as the HR Manager for an IT Services company, where she led day-to-day operations of the HR department, including the design, planning, and implementation of various HR programs and policies. She ensured the proper HR support, structure, and culture was in place to successfully grow the organization, which doubled its workforce in less than two years during her tenure. Wendy successfully transitioned their manual performance evaluation process to an automated performance management system. The transition resulted in a 60% increase in performance feedback – increasing employee morale and company credibility.
Wendy holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia. Certified SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). She currently resides in Hanover, MD with her husband, Paul Bernard, who works for the Federal Government of the United States. They have three children - Arianna, Christian, and Logan. She serves as a program volunteer for The Complete Player Charity Youth Empowerment Program and in the children’s ministry at her church.
Wendy elected to take a personal sabbatical beginning November 2021 to rest, recharge, and reevaluate her “next” while prioritizing intentional time with her family and exploring several of her passions, one of which is coaching. She continues to serve and support her former employer and another organization in a consultant capacity.
