How We Started
In the fall of 2011, a small group of seasoned leaders from business, sports, academia, and the military met to discuss how they could make a difference in the world. That conversation became the Severn Leadership Group, founded on the belief that leadership is defined by one’s character, not one’s title.
Fifteen years and forty-nine cohorts later, that founding group’s conviction has become a lifelong network of Fellows, Mentors, and organizations who share our vision.
Our Mission and Vision
Our mission is to develop and support leaders and teams to be agents of transformation and exceptional outcomes. Our vision is a better world through virtuous leadership.
We believe in the potential of all leaders, whether rising in their career or currently an executive, to inspire excellence and drive toward it not just with their virtues intact, but with their virtues at the helm. Character-driven leadership and followership at every level is how a better future will come to fruition.

Love
Not a feeling, but actions of service and generosity to another, even when it requires one to be self-sacrificing.
Integrity
Alignment between family, personal, and professional lives, and consistently doing the right thing even when no one is watching.
Truth
Seeking and evaluating facts to distinguish and stand up for what is fundamentally right.
Excellence
A continuous pursuit of learning and improving, while growing in the virtues of Love, Integrity, Truth, and Relationships.
Relationships
Cultivating positive connections among individuals, groups, and communities to benefit everyone involved.
Courage
The activating virtue. It is what allows a leader to act on Love, Integrity, Truth, Excellence, and Relationships instead of simply admiring them.
Where We Work
Our headquarters is in Annapolis, Maryland, with a second in-person location in Groton, Connecticut. We also run virtual and hybrid cohorts with leaders and organizations across North America.
