A Permanent Investment in Leaders of Virtuous Character

An endowment is different from a gift that funds this year’s work. It is a gift that keeps working, generating income that sustains SLG’s mission for as long as the fund exists. It funds Fellows for decades to come, including generations you will never meet.

Why Endowment Giving Matters

Most gifts to SLG fund this year’s Fellows, this year’s Mentors, this year’s cohorts. An endowment gift works differently: rather than being spent, it is invested, and the income it generates funds the mission year after year, indefinitely.

Think of it this way. An annual gift funds one cohort. An endowment gift funds every cohort that comes after it, for as long as the endowment exists. It is the difference between funding a single leader’s development and funding a permanent capacity to develop leaders, one your gift helps build, and one that outlasts you.

Held at the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County

The Severn Leadership Group Endowment Fund is held at the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC), which manages and invests the fund so that its annual distributions support SLG’s mission in perpetuity. You can give to the fund online through CFAAC, and CFAAC also accepts gifts of appreciated stock and planned gifts for the benefit of the fund.

Ways to Give to the Endowment

  • Cash gifts: a direct contribution to the endowment fund.
  • Appreciated securities: stocks or other appreciated assets, often with tax advantages over a cash gift of the same value.
  • Bequests: a gift designated in your will or estate plan.
  • Charitable remainder trusts: a vehicle that provides you or your beneficiaries income during your lifetime, with the remainder passing to SLG’s endowment.
  • Life insurance beneficiary designations: naming SLG’s endowment as a full or partial beneficiary of an existing policy.

For giving that is not specific to the endowment, see all the ways you can give to SLG.

Tax Considerations

Endowment gifts, particularly through appreciated securities, bequests, or charitable trusts, often carry tax advantages worth discussing with your financial advisor. This is not legal or tax advice. It is a starting point for that conversation.
